Our goal at the Museum Store isn’t for Museum visitors to just exit through the gift shop, rather for our visitors to discover a tangible extension of their Museum experience. To take a piece of their trip home with them, or to tell a loved one ‘I was there, and I was thinking of you’.

The in-store visit has long been the centre of the Museum store experience. With the welcoming hum of kiwi anthems, friendly and dedicated staff, and a wide selection of gifts for a friend, or for yourself.

In 2020, the Museum Store left its nook in the Grand Foyer for a new home in the award-winning Te Ao Mārama South Atrium. The move was part of an exciting new chapter for the Museum, to give Aucklanders a world- class destination and Museum experience that reflects our place in the 21st century.

The excitement however was short lived, as a certain unprecedented pandemic had other plans.

Suddenly, without international visitors and for long stretches without any visitors at all, the Museum Store was a particularly important lifeline for the Museum. Our online customers generously helped support our work as a research institution, war memorial, and kaitiaki for Auckland’s stories and taonga.

As Tāmaki Makaurau opened up once again and visitors (including a T. rex named Peter) came back to the Museum, we wanted to make sure our online visitors get the best experience possible, one that reflects the care that goes into our store product selection.

And here you are, in our brand-new online Museum Store. We wanted to make it as easy as possible for you to find what you’re looking for, or to discover something new and unexpected. With a selection curated to reflect the Museum collections and exhibitions, as well as the talents of local artists and makers whose wares we’re proud to stock, there’s a story behind every item.

So nau mai, haere mai and welcome, we’re grateful to have you with us. Whether in-store or online, we’re confident you will find something special either for yourself or a loved one, while supporting your Museum and the mahi that keeps it ready for future generations to enjoy.
