Graham Tipene x BLUNT Umbrellas launches at Hokohoko Museum Store
Just in time for winter, and as Matariki and Puanga rise, we're excited to launch a stunning new collaboration: BLUNT x Graham Tipene—available now at Hokohoko Auckland Museum Store.
Brace the elements with a limited-edition umbrella that’s as meaningful as it is practical. Known for their hard-wearing umbrellas built to stand the test of time (and Auckland’s unpredictable weather) this beautifully reimagined BLUNT umbrella brings together storm-proof function with style.
Graham Tipene’s works may be familiar to Museum visitors – the connection with his art is deeply ingrained in the building – literally. Visitors who enter into Te Ao Mārama, the Museum’s South Atrium are welcomed by Tipene’s work Te Tatau Kaitiaki, the carved wooden doors you pass through to enter our space. A renowned Tā Moko artist and cultural advisor from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, all of Tipene’s works are deeply rooted in the traditions and values of mana whenua, and he is renowned for his intricate designs that celebrate Māori heritage and identity.

Created in honour of Matariki, the design is inspired by the quiet, powerful moments just before dawn, when the spirit world and the world of the living briefly share space – a time of deep connection. Matariki is a time to dream, hold ceremony, and share space, bringing us together to welcome the New Year. Inspired by dawn views at Takaparawhau, this design captures the spirit of Matariki in Aotearoa.
