Moana Williams - Ngāti Porou, Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāi Tūhoe is the face behind Tuitui Designs.
Born in Te Awa Kairangi, Hutt River and raised by the awhi of her great grandparents who instilled values and connection to Te Ao Māori (the Māori world). They taught her the importance of Te Taiao, (the natural environment), whakapapa (genealogy), pūrākau (traditional oral teachings) and te reo Māori (the Māori language). At a young primary school age Moana was taught to weave baskets from harakeke, and draw kowhaiwhai (Māori patterns) by her great grandmother, uku (clay) by her grandmother and bone carving by an uncle.

Moana is a Māori artist, designer, educator, and the founder of Tuitui Designs. In 2002, she developed contemporary tukutuku panel kitsets, creating an accessible and innovative way for people to learn and weave traditional Māori design patterns within a modern-day context.

Moana's artistic journey has continued to evolve through the exploration of a wide range of traditional and contemporary mediums. Alongside her renowned tukutuku work, and many other mediums, Moana creates contemporary jewellery. Her work reflects a deep commitment to preserving and sharing mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) while exploring innovative ways to express cultural identity through art.
Moana works from Lower Hutt and creates works that reflect themes of resilience, transformation, belonging, and the interconnectedness of all things.
