Ngā Waka o Neher collects all the published information on the subject of Māori voyaging canoes into one volume. It contains details of all the canoes that brought migrants from the Pacific Islands to Aotearoa New Zealand in centuries past, including lists of the waka (canoes), names of crew members on the vessels, waiata (songs) and karakia (prayers) used, and maps. The work is organized by canoe, with an attractive design that makes the information easy to access. Transforming the rich records of oral history into a written document, this is a work of considerable value to students of navigation and Polynesian history, and nautical enthusiasts."
