Kete Silver and Red Aluminium
By Anna Gedson - Whakatōhea
This stunning kete was hand woven by Anna Gedson, using aluminium strips and red powder coated aluminium strips.
Working from her home studio, Anna creates her works of art in Tirohanga, Opotiki. Inspired by her Māori heritage, she works with a range of materials including harakeke (flax), pāua, glass pounamu, cotton/rayon threads and most recently with metals such as copper and aluminium.
Her love and respect of harakeke weaving as well as the traditional Māori knowledge and skills gained while exploring this medium, has Anna to combine those skills and ideas with her latest use of materials.
From a young age, Anna often spent time creating and designing, which guided her to complete a diploma in Textile Design from Wellington Polytechnic.
Her unique and contemporary sculptural works are a wonderful combination of the traditional and modern woven together to create precious taonga (treasure).
