Battle Pin- The Battle of Romani
This is a Limited Edition Battle Pin to commemorate the Battle of Romani.
The image on the pin depicts a man on horseback from the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade.
Following an Ottoman attack which began in the middle of the night, the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade took part in a 2-day conflict in the Sinai Peninsula which became known as the Battle of Romani. The confrontation lasted from 3 – 5th of August 1916 and saw 1130 Allied casualties, with the Anzac Division taking the brunt of the losses.
The Sinai campaign is less well known than other First World War campaigns like Gallipoli and those on the Western Front. But it was here, in the harsh, arid desert, that the Allies took the first major step towards their ultimate victory over the Ottoman Turks in the Middle East.
Wear this pin to remember the sacrifice and celebrate the bravery of our New Zealand soldiers.
We will remember them.
