These beautiful earrings are handcrafted by Rainey Designs using pure copper and vitreous (glass) enamel.
The purple poppy is often worn to remember the animals that have served during wartime.

These beautiful earrings are handcrafted by Rainey Designs using pure copper and vitreous (glass) enamel.
These poppy designs have been created at their studio in Christchurch. They cut and dome pure copper by hand, sift a thick layer of vitreous (glass) enamel onto the copper. Then, kiln-fire those pieces to achieve an even and glossy finish.

The purple poppy is often worn to remember the animals that have served during wartime. Animals had many different roles during war time, pigeons carried important messages, dogs helped to find the wounded and donkeys carried the wounded to field stations.

    Meet the Maker

    Rainey Designs

Rainey Designs was established by husband and wife team Selma and Sean, several years ago.
Based in Ōtautahi -Christchurch, Selma and Sean have continued to hand craft all of their products. They also work with other small businesses and source materials locally wherever possible.
Their recycled ranges are a testament to this ethos. Their design work is constantly evolving, and their pieces carry both interesting stories and the mark of sustainability. These values are important to Selma and Sean and their customers.
Sean and Selma have utilised a variety of recycled elements as the main component of their work. These range from vintage timepieces through to coins from Aotearoa – New Zealand

Nature has been Rainey Designs’ foremost inspiration. Both Selma and Sean agree “the beauty of nature is incomparable”. Natural symbols feature greatly throughout their work through various metals and different forms. You can purchase their beautifully crafted jewellery from the collection we are showcasing in our SPEX store (Special Exhibition Store), which is supporting our current Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition.
