This playful Kererū earrings have been cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with sterling silver hooks.

The native Kererū is a large, distinctively-coloured pigeon with iridescent green and bronze feathers on its head and a smart white vest. They are familiar sight to many people throughout New Zealand as they are widespread across the country in both forests and urban habitats. The noisy beat of their wings is a distinctive sound and they will often ascend slowly before making impressively steep parabolic dives. Tī kōuka is the Māori name for the New Zealand native cabbage tree. It is one of the most distinctive trees in the New Zealand landscape, especially on farms. They grow all over the country, but prefer wet, open areas like swamps.

Tania Mallow has had a deep-seated passion for crafting since the age of 8, and her journey began in her father's garage, where she discovered her love for creating jewellery using bits of wire and beads.

With a determined pursuit of a career aligning with her passion for jewellery and creativity, Tania invested time and energy, ultimately receiving formal training under the guidance of renowned Goldsmith Chris Schweder. By early 2005, Tania identified a market need for quality handmade jewellery combining affordability with beautiful design, leading to the official establishment of 'Tania Mallow Jewellery.' With two decades of showcasing her work through galleries and stores across New Zealand, Tania has cultivated a strong and diverse customer base.

“I love witnessing the journey of a piece of jewellery, from an idea scribbled on a scrap of paper to its formation and the final polish. It's a truly enjoyable process.”
