Form & Function Ceramics
Janelle Tebbutt
Janelle Tebbutt is the ceramic artist behind Form & Function Ceramics based in Auckland. Of Samoan, Māori (Ngāti Raukawa), Scottish and English heritage, her work explores cultural identities, connections and environments through functional, handmade forms.
Originally trained as a physiotherapist, Janelle discovered ceramics after attending a pottery class with her parents. What began as quiet curiosity soon grew into a creative calling. The tactile nature of clay, the rhythm of the wheel, and the grounding presence of the process sparked something that felt both old but ‘known’ as well as new.
Since then, Janelle has developed a practice focused on functional ware, infused with meaning. She creates pieces that explore form, stories, symbols and patterns. Together with her husband, a graphic designer, she continues to shape a body of work that reflects her cultural identity, love for useful but aesthetic pieces, and connection to places and people.
Each piece is made to be lived with, treasured and, above all, to be enjoyed.
