Sacred Fish Hook with Whale Tale
Dark Kawakawa Jade from Marsden Area - South Island, New Zealand
Leaving their homeland in Eastern Polynesia and seeking the Land of Gods they would follow migrating whales along the great southern current Te Tia Mahunui, this was called Riding the White Whale.
The carving with its Birds Head Manaia and Whale Tale represents the spirts of the "People of the Old Tides" as they travelled with the whales to this sacred land in the Southern Ocean known as Aotearoa, the land of the Gods.
