Pioneer Axe Pendant
by Tania Tupu
This unique pendant is replicated from an original Pioneer Badge and then translated into a pendant by Tania Tupu. It is zinc alloy electroplated to look like the original finish in antique brass and matched with a stainless steel chain.
The Cross Axe Badge was a pioneer or sapper who performed a variety of military engineering duties, bridge-building, laying and cleaning minefields, building roads, airfields, and digging tunnels and trenches. They also trained to serve as infantry personnel in defensive and offensive operations.
Tania Tupu- Ngati Porou is a jewellery designer and maker of contemporary Maori and Pacific inspired adornment. She has been making jewellery for galleries across New Zealand, Australia and Pacific since 2006.
