Cherry Te Peeti Taupurau - Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Rangitāne and Ngāti Kahungunu.
Cherry is a self-taught artist and draws strength directly from her tūpuna (ancestors). She has been creating art for over 30 years working with a variety of media such as canvas, wood, mortar, glass, copper and pounamu.

Cherry now works with pounamu and is the sole student of one of New Zealand’s most influential and respected contemporary pounamu carvers – Te Kaha.

Cherry carves in a manner of Tikanga and Kawa (Māori customs) and embraces the teaching of her kaiako (teacher).

Cherry is a direct descendant from the sacred ancestor mountain Ruahine and from the flowing waters of the Manawatū River. She is a protector of and resides on the land that is Te Tapere nui o Whatonga.  It is from these elements that she sources her energy to stand strong in this world.
