It erupted out of the sea and has been the site of at least two eruptions, the last occurring about 600 years ago. These eruptions created one of Auckland’s most striking features.

Thomas began his creative career working in ceramics in California, U.S.A and has made several pieces for the city of Sacramento. Two tile fountains can also be found in L.A including murals, facades, and sculptures for the city of Long Beach.

Thomas moved to New Zealand with his family in 2003 where he turned his creative practice to glass making. His early works were mostly flat back castings similar to his ceramic tile work, then developed into 3D forms. Part of his ceramic expertise is mold making so the transition to lost wax glass casting happened quickly. Thomas works from his St Johns based studio in Auckland.

Made in New Zealand

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0355/4193/files/CastGlassRangitotoIslandSmallbyThomasBarter-Auqa1.jpg?v=1781757118
