A beautiful cast glass Kōtare - Kingfisher made by Lukeke Design.
Lukeke Design was established by Luke Jacomb in 2006. Based in Auckland, Lukeke Design produce an affordable range of handmade cast and blown glass works.
Māori admired the Kingfisher or Kōtare for being like a watchful sentry. The bird perches motionless, then attacks its prey in a sudden blur. The word Kōtare sometimes referred to the elevated platform in a Māori pā, used to watch for enemies. It is the only species of kingfisher native to New Zealand.
Each work is individually crafted and cast so may vary slightly in colour due to the nature of being handcrafted. Easy to install, each bird has a permanently attached screw that turns into the wall anchor provided with purchase.
