Feather Bone Pendant

by Chris Elliot

$480.00 NZD

1

This beautiful bone pendant has been hand carved into an intricate feather by artist Chris Elliot.

Originally from Auckland, Chris Elliott is the youngest of 10, born on his father's birthday, on the 5th of December, 1951. Life was pretty tough at times, but he took time to build model aeroplanes and hot-rod cars. He left school at 16 and got a job working for a knife maker. He also spent a few years building swimming pools in the Auckland region. He eventually felt the urge to leave the "rat race" and bought into a share-owned piece of land on Aotea (Great Barrier Is.)

Living off the land gave him many skills, he would hunt wild pig, cattle and goats with his trusty dogs. Inspired by a carved bone piece given to him, Chris soon fell in love fell in love with the art of bone carving. Playing around with bones and different hand tools, he developed his craft in his spare time, so he is completely self-taught. Using tiny needle files and other hand tools, he would sit for hours honing his skills.

After living and carving on Aotea for 35 years, Chris decided to move to Dannevirke, where he is now based and is still carving almost every day, still honing his skills and still loving his craft.
