This beautiful contemporary square pendant has been hand carved from New Zealand pounamu (greenstone/jade) by carver Tim Steel - Ngāi Tahu
Pounamu is the Māori name for greenstone or nephrite jade which is only found in the South Island. It is an extremely tough material and is said to absorb the owners essential spirit, feeding it back to them and enhancing their strength.
Tim grew up in Pukerua Bay, a small seaside community at the southern end of the Kapiti Coast. Tim’s love for collecting beach stones started at a young age and that affinity with searching out and finding special stones has always been with him. Tim now works with pounamu from his home studio in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, where he has developed a unique style of stone carving.
