This Battle pin commemorates the WWI battles that were significant to New Zealanders. The Battle of Somme was one of them. On 1 July 1916 British and French forces launched an offensive which would become known as the Battle of the Somme.
The Somme Campaign lasted from the 31st August to 25th October 1916 with 15,000 New Zealanders serving during that time. 5,848 were wounded and 2111 died in action. The poppy is an international icon of hope and remembrance.
