This statue portrays the ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet. Bastet is the cat goddess of motherhood, joy, and protection.
She specialized in protection from evil spirits and disease, particularly in women and children. Ancient Egyptian beliefs also saw her as the benevolent guide of the dead to the afterlife.
Bastet, the cat goddess of the home, is one of the most popular goddesses of ancient Egypt. Bastet was the playful, feline goddess of joy. Defender of the home and family, protected the innocent.
