The Scottish Highland cattle display the strongest genomic signal of ancient crossbreeding with the British Aurochs. The Aurochs (Bos primigenius) was black, stood 1.8 metres high at the shoulder, and had spreading, forward-curving horns.
The aurochs, also known as urus or ure, is an extinct species of large wild cattle that was first described in 1827 and survived in Europe until 1627. It is believed the aurochs were around for approx. 2 million years.
Size: approx. 13 x 9.4 x 4.5 cm
